USTA Florida Foundation Grant Helping Support Tennis Center in Plantation

Thanks to the support from the USTA Florida Section Foundation, the Plantation Tennis Wheelchair Program is opening doors for adults and children with disabilities and helping tennis truly become a sport for everyone.

Foundation funding made it possible to expand access to tennis, purchase equipment, and host community events that showcase the abilities of wheelchair athletes. With this support, the program has created meaningful opportunities for participants to stay active, build confidence, and connect with others. Families and companions are welcomed on court, creating a supportive environment where players feel comfortable and encouraged. Beyond tennis, the program is strengthening bonds among participants, city leaders, local organizations, and community members who believe in the power of inclusion.

This year, the program reached new heights of visibility. Through social media outreach and community storytelling, more people are learning about wheelchair tennis and the athletic talents of these players. A highlight was the wheelchair tennis exhibition, which drew more than 50 attendees, including eight athletes, and brought together the Mayor, City Council, Police and Fire Departments, and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The event was filled with energy live demonstrations, food, music, and, most importantly, a celebration of ability and community pride. None of this would have been possible without the Foundation’s grant support.

The Plantation Tennis Wheelchair Program is a clear example of the USTA Florida Section Foundation’s mission to change lives through tennis. By fostering inclusion, breaking down barriers, and creating equitable opportunities to play, this program is not only strengthening the community it is transforming lives through the power of sport.
